Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and fourteen. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible.

Suitable candidates for otoplasty:

  • The ears are placed at an excessive angle in relation to the head
  • Lack of one or more normal folds of the ear

What to Expect After Otoplasty Surgery

You will have a band to wear at all times for one week after surgery.  You may then stop wearing your band during the day, but continue to wear it at night for another week.  Sutures will be removed seven days after surgery.
